Ea adventure Chaaa-ley Part I

WOW.
What a weekend.
I'm just going to jump right in this, and those who are friends with me on FB, don't ruin it for everyone else.

Want to hear a scary story?

It starts with a boy. And a girl. And their horse.

It was an exciting day, for the girl was headed to Equine Affaire in Ohio to ride with the best of the best and show off her mad skilllz and try to make more horsey friends and connections. She was hyped up and ready to drive.

This girl was not fond of driving but the excitement took over and she trucked onward for almost the whole way, not complaining once about how sore sitting in the truck makes her legs. She just kept driving an driving.

The girl was concerned for her horses' well being though and wanted to make sure that they stopped and let him stretch his legs a little since it was a 9 hour drive.

The horse was very happy to get out and move around a little even though his stall in the trailer was large and airy.

The horse was unsure about what the girl was doing up above him.

The horse also smelled and heard pigs. He was curious.

Mostly though, both horse and girl were happy to walk around and get some blood flowing.

The trio headed back on the road. Nearing Tara Haute they got excited. They were so close to Dayton, not far to go till they could rest.

The girl was still excited, they would get in a day ahead of time so they could spend all saturday relaxing and sight seeing so that by Sunday, all would be refreshed and ready to ride!

Girl got tired, so boy took over driving for about an hour. Boy had never driven a horse trailer before, but he had driven boats. Girl was comfortable with handing over they keys since they had a full tank of gas, had only higway to cover and boy was a very good driver.

Girl fell asleep. It was a pleasant sleep, full of happy dreams of prancing ponies and cupcakes and rainbows.

She awoke to boy cursing loudly and slightly freaking out. She sat up in fear. The trailer was jackknifing. Boy was calm and cool but girl was hysterical.

"we blew a tire" said the boy.

"WHAT?! What do you mean?! How?"

"well obviously we hit something, or the potholes murdered our tire. Either way, we need to change it"

"But we are like a mile from any exit!!!"

"then we drive to the exit"

"WE CANT!!! MY HORSE IS IN THAT TRAILER!!!"

"There is nothing else we can do. I am not changing a tire on the freeway at 11 at night"

So they drove 20 mph to the nearest exit. It was the scariest time of this girls life. She feared only for her precious horses' safety. Longest mile she ever drove.

They were lucky the exit had a massive 24 hour gas station and truck stop.

Boy prepared the trailer for tire changing, girl unloaded horse and hoped he would behave.

She was silly to think he wouldn't, he is the best pony and mearly sniffed things with curiosity.

Horse was thinking, "why are the silly humans so freaked out? This is fun!"

Well, the boy disccovered that the tools we had to change said tire, needed to be plugged in. requiring unhitching the trailer and moving the truck next to it. Boy did not think this was awesome at all, in fact he was rather upset at this revalation. Girl tried to keep him calm by saying 'At least no one died. We are ok, its just a tire'. It did not help boy.

Horse was curious and wanted to help boy. He understood boy was stressed and wanted to help.

Finally, almost an hour and a half later, tire was changed, horse was still so chill and it was now 1 am. Awesometastic beacause they still had 3 hours to go.

Well there went their night.

The trio arrived in Ohio at 4am and promptly went to bed...

to be continued......

Good Things

Yesterday was pretty good. H was there and since we both had bad rides Tues. we dicided to make a jump chute and free jump the ponies.

Warrior thought we were silly humans making him jump sticks ont he ground so he spent most of the time running circles around us.

Pronto thought it was great fun, but jump really flat. He basically keeps his back level and just jerks his legs up...makes for impressive pictures though. I feel llike he could jump higher actually, he just doesn't know how. He is quite graceful for such a big fella.

Yankee was a perfect gem, minus one refusal. He was having such fun. I didn't push the height because of the 9 hour drive we have to take tomorrow. He still hopped like he had wings though.

Also, THINSG SHIPPED TO ME!!! EEEEEEEEEEE! Mainly my saddle last night...it...is ....AWESOME!

My happy face.

It is SO gorgeous and perfect and I can't believe I found it for $500! Its not brand new but I don't care. I still lost money on the deal. I sold my saddle for $425 and after ebay fees ($43) and Shipping fees ($75!!!!) I only got $307 out of it...which is still a loss. Whatever, I have peace of mind now :)

Also I got my smartpaks, quietex, new stable wraps and some liniment in the mail today :)

Shaved ponyface

Big ole 19 hand Pronto taking a gander at jumping

This was the only whoops moment we had...dunno what happened, he just thought his striding was off or something. No matter, he was a gem yesterday.

spring loaded! He could jump that black fence if he tried.

Boing!

Making it look easy

Beast!

Nice Yanks :)

Looking gorgeous free!

Tomorrow I hva eonly 2 classes so I am heading to the barn to bathe him and finish packing then we will load up and head to Ohio for EA!

I am pretty excited. Getting to visit numerous old instructors, riding friends, 4H leaders and Pony Club advisors. :)

Now if only I can lose like 10 more lbs before then, lol

That's Unfortunate

Yesterday was crap compared to Sunday's ride. Both in the Passier.

I don't know what our deal was, but neither of us could get it together...

Yankee thought he was a 3 year old again and spooked at every leaf and decided bending and using his back correctly was not in his gameplan for the day. Instead he was gonna run around on the forehand and run through contact and be all kinds of strung out and crooked.

Now, I can't blame him all that way... my riding was COMPLETE SHIT yesterday. I just could not keep it together
.
I mean look at this picture. How HORRID is my equitation here?? Shoulders rounded, tipping forward, chair seat, hands down......WTF.

All day I could not seem to keep myself aligned and I KNOW it was causing some problems.
It was a viscous circle...he wouls act up, I would ride defensively and start to crouch, he would resist, I would get pissed.

And so it goes.

Now we had some ok moments...

But most were like this....

Thanks for the distraction Komik...

oh nice, that'll win some good points..

Anyways, just frustrating. I'm sure you all experience ups and downs but I say this over and over again...I'm sure you;re sick of hearing it.
"Oh god we had such a nice day today! I freaking love my horse! We win everything! Oh noes today sucked, I hates him. Why do we suck so much???"

Yesterday he was EXCEPTIONALLY stuck. Like, not bending at all and sucked back in the contact. I have a feeling it had to do with the major wind and Komik providing excellent distractions.

I tried everything.

Wide hand placement, half halts on inside rein leg to outside rein, no half halts, stretchy circles, transitions, renver/traver. sidepassing........NOTHING loosened him.

We fought. We bickered.

Then we both got tired and gave up and looked somewhat normal.

This was not a saddle issue. This was just a case of us both sucking ass.

Getting some bend

VERY nice L canter, his worst direction
oddly. BIG half halting here though and inside leg/rein to outside

Another pretty nice canter L

counter canter practice, again with my EQ

pretty good, except he is WAY too bent...

Some extreme haunches in

Not too hateful. Our trot work was the worst though.

ALSO...

I AM WAIT LISTED FOR THE DRESSAGE SHOW NEXT WEEKEND. noooooooooooooo!

I have an icky feeling they let ALL the riding college students from William Woods and Stephens get in first then put everyone else in if there was room because I sent my entry 2 weeks before close and I am waitlisted.

Whatthecuss dude.

Anyways...just took an exam, most likely rocked it (fingerscrossed) and now I can take a breath from school and concentrate on EA this weekend! So much to do! I shaved his face yesterday, don't know if you can tell.

Stretching

I did this yesterday after warm up and it really seemed to improve our lateral work and transitions.

I think I will keep doing this before every ride now.

I've had a very busy Spring Break...still haven't done any homework.

Been working overtime at work to try and get as many hours as possible and picked up 4 shifts at the barn as well. YAY!

Jumping today, off tomorrow, dressage Sunday!

ALSO, I will be drawing this for Stacey over at the Jumping Percheron. I will keep ya'll updated on the progress :)

8 days till Equine Affaire!

Sorry for the short post, but I have to be at work soon

Realization

I just realized...

I would do anything for my horses...

...my dogs...

...my cats...

I would work till my fingers were nubs.

Suffer at a shitty job for them.

Go hungry for them.

Spend lots of money that I don't have to keep them healthy and comfortable...

I will lose sleep till I collapse for them.

I will fail classes for them.

Because in the end they are all that matter.

They are ALWAYS there for me when I need them. A warm shoulder to lean on. A soft coat to cry on. A willing companion to talk to. Unconditional love some call it. I call it something more... an ultimate bond, a deep friendship.

They remind me that no matter how bad it seems (or good!) they will always be there. That is reassuring when all else seems out of control.

Nothing else really, truly matters to me....(well, the boyfriend too, of course.

Sure there are always bills to pay. People to call. Days to go to work, to school....but it's all for them, in my mind. They keep me happy and I love them!

Go hug your your pets...your horse. Be thankful!

The Numbers Game

4 days away from my horse.

1,427 miles driven.

$320 spent on gas.

1 adorable mini horse visited in STL, mo (mine actually).

1 equally adorable min pin picked up (stray my BFF found that I decided to take in).

1 slightly rusty heavy ass horse trailer brought back to Missouri for my use this summer :)

2 wiped out people and 2 wiped out puppies.

1 saddle almost sold on Ebay.

Approximately 3 lbs lost :)
